They do not see that the streets shine beautifully, that they themselves are walking on stars and water, that they are running in skies to catch a bus or taxi, to shelter somewhere in the press of irritated humans...

lovely - nothing like the deep dark gleam of wet asphalt
I love that moment..the darkening of the skies, the first drops of rain..and then the mad scramble for safety. I think that's Charing Cross Road in the picture..which makes it all the more special for me since I've made that dash for cover a number of times; Foyles often being the great refuge. Yes, that's it precisely..the dark gleam (the black sun!). Matched only by the transient, ephemeral ones on the windows of a passing double decker bus once the sun returns. Sigh... Time to read Suupervielle again!
on a rainy day, dashing for cover into Foyles.
what an image! it incapsulates a whole world ...
and it gets a nostalgic sigh over here - a long time ago (before the arrival of internet)I went to London with a twin travel purpose: visiting galleries and stocking up on books. Foyles seemed like paradise to me. I stil remember getting there Benjamin's Illuminations (with Arendt's great introduction)
