a dream

A picture of the beautiful Elis, who sings like a dream.

Faithful old T has helped me..er..locate one of her cds ('Romantica' from the 5-cd box set). Must ask Miguel to get me translations of the lyrics.

Standing over little r in the morning, my arms folded, as she sleeps blissfully, in her freestyle, carefree way. The early morning light is like a blue haze since we have a blue shade to keep the sun out. Thought to myself, when she's 80 or 90 she'll have no idea that I watched over her like this and I would have been long gone. (How many of our acts go unnoticed, even though they're surely real with or without a witness to them?). Doesn't matter. Some things are right in and of themselves. And perhaps we see the faces of our loved ones in dreams too...

oh - such a perfect moment (all the more so because it is unknown by the other). their sleep has something so special, like nothing in the world, this total absorption into it, carefree oblivion of everything... too often we, the grown-ups, carry our world into our sleep as well.

that's a beautiful line, roxana...carrying our world into our dreams, instead of the other way around. Got to say, though, already little r sometimes wakes up and the first words she says are 'chickenchawal' (chicken and rice) or 'rupert-the-bear'.

and when a child laughs she or he doesn't put their hand over their mouth...only later do we make them conform. Was thinking, really, how many of our conventions are plain old silly and just how far society (men, mostly) warps and stunts the lives of young girls.

I feel like going to sleep myself now!

Thanks for those wonderful reflections.

Keep well,
