The problem with fucking originality is that it leads to reproduction.Absence of mother is the necessity of invention.
Don't know why, but ropes seem to be featuring in my conversation quite a lot recently (don't ask). So, it was a delight to come across Hazlitt's essay: quick, and light, daring and agile, a dazzling virtuoso performance.
To grow up is to become conservative, mature; shake off that earlier childish coat of idealism and spontaneity and settle down into the received wisdom of the men in hats, settle for the conformities, platitudes and worn-out cliches of the bourgeoisie, or settle in with the flat-landers with their cheap pieties and tiresome religiosity.Make peace with your God. The stone-like, implacable faces of the intelligentsia are so serious and dour; to be lost in abstractions precludes all flexibility and suppleness.
my eyes have seen
what my hand did.
Certain movements and impressions of the hand and eye, having been repeated together an infinite number of times, are unconsciously but unavoidably cemented together into closer and closer union.

"fucking originality"? do you hate this concept so much? :-)
i don't know why i remembered this song (it might be because of the hands/gaze interplay, just "might" :-):
Many men have loved the bells
you fastened to the rein,
and everyone who wanted you
they found what they will always want again.
Your beauty lost to you yourself
just as it was lost to them.
Oh take this longing from my tongue,
whatever useless things these hands have done.
Let me see your beauty broken down
like you would do for one you love.
Your body like a searchlight
my poverty revealed,
I would like to try your charity
until you cry, "Now you must try my greed."
And everything depends upon
how near you sleep to me
Just take this longing from my tongue
all the lonely things my hands have done.
Let me see your beauty broken down
like you would do for one your love.
Hungry as an archway
through which the troops have passed,
I stand in ruins behind you,
with your winter clothes, your broken sandal straps.
I love to see you naked over there
especially from the back.
Oh take this longing from my tongue,
all the useless things my hands have done,
untie for me your hired blue gown,
like you would do for one that you love.
err..is that a trick question? but no, I mean yes, originality is such an infidel concept. perhaps i should have put a :) to indicate it was kind of pun?
