b, did you see my post on George Mackay Brown? Or was this just co-incidence? (We seem to have a lot of those!)
george mackay brown i had meant to read all the time too. this weekend i go up to the lakes and snatch it.
hi b
i hope you like stoner. everyone to whom i rcommended it liked it.
Antonia - I recommend Maggie Fergson's Life of GMB - she met him in his later years and wote, I think, a true and perceptive account of a complex and enigmatic man. Of course, you may already have read it!
C, of course! :-)
does look very interesting. thanks for the recommendation.
anton, yes, will certainly keep an eye out for Stoner-though it's very hard to find good books here.
Can't help thinking what a charmed life this is: books, music, films, good food..and what an incredible struggle it is for most people.
Take care, both of you.
b.
i will look out for that maggie fergson book, celia, but first i must snatch the completed poems from the relatives :)
yeah b. i see what you mean about we are being relatiely privileged... it's not always easy to reconcile with what one does....
