The Queen and the Soldier

The Soldier asked the Queen: "Is there another room here within the room, an innermost chamber, where we will be alone and speak sweetly to one another?
~
The Queen smiled to herself and lowered her head. "Is that what lovers do?!But why, then, do you drape this melancholic blue tunic around your breast in my presence?"
~
She said something to him, and something in him died.
~
He stared at her red dress, thinking he could never tame or win such a one as her. And since that day he has thought:
~
Rose is fire, rose-twig is fire, the garden is fire, the river bank is fire.
~
And so now he kills and slays, the sword of negation, fighting his way back. He remembers her lips,
~
like a kiss of death to drink.
.
(quotations: H. Hesse and Galib Dede)
